Event Details

When photographers converged on the convention center in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, survivor Angela Perkins cried out “Thank God the press is here.”

Such began months of storytelling and relationships between the people of the gulf coast and the media. On August 19, 2010, a juried exhibit of Katrina imagery will open at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art.

On August 21, 2010, renowned author and historian Douglas Brinkley is scheduled to highlight our program of speakers presentations panel discussions.   Rep. Jim Tucker, Louisiana Speaker of the House, is our planned maser of ceremonies.   See our program page for more information.

The National Press Photographers Association invites you to the opening of this exhibit, and a program of workshops exploring the past, present and future of visual storytelling of gulf coast disasters.
